Comparing medical direction, patroller training, and patient care of U.S. ski patrols.
Hello Ski Patrol Directors, and Medical Directors of Ski Patrols –
My name is Lindsey Fell, and I am a medical student at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. Before beginning medical school, I worked as a professional ski patroller for 9 years, in both the US and New Zealand.
I am interested in exploring the variation in patroller training, patient care, and medical direction (if applicable) that exists among ski patrols in the United States. The goal of this study is to inform others of what is being done among patrols with regards to the factors above.
This study consists of a survey that should take no longer than 10 minutes for you to complete. There is a survey designed for the ski patrol director, and one for the medical director, if your ski patrol has one.
This survey is part of a research project that is approved by the OHSU Internal Review Board, study number 00021906, entitled Comparing Medical Direction, Patroller Training, and Patient Care of U.S. Ski Patrols. Dr. Thomas DeLoughery, an OHSU faculty member with an interest in Wilderness Medicine, is the principal investigator assisting with the project.
Your answers will be collected and stored on a secure hard drive. Your information will be released in an aggregated manner, so that your specific ski patrol’s information will not be identifiable to anyone outside of the research team. This is being done with the hope that high-quality information regarding what is being done for patient care and staff training will be collected. If there are any questions that you are uncomfortable with, an option for you not to answer on any question will also be provided.
